VPS Hosting Review at Host1Plus

By on Mar 7, 2015 in Hosting |

Host1Plus is an international hosting company that was founded in 2008. It seems that they are quite experienced in the hosting industry. They provide a variety of hosting services: web, VPS, cloud, dedicated or reseller hosting. It’s important to note that they have a 24 / 7 customer support which is available in English, Portuguese, Spanish and Lithuanian languages. However, their VPS hosting service is the most popular and this time, so we will look at it in more detail. If you would decide to sign up with their VPS hosting, you will be able to choose from 5 different locations – USA (Los Angeles, Chicago), Brazil (Sao Paulo), Germany (Frankfurt) and South Africa (Johannesburg). Remember, that the closer the server location is to you, the faster the connection speed you will have. Host1Plus provides four VPS hosting plans – Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Each of them can be customized during the checkout process, so you can add only those server resources which you require the most. For starters, let’s look at the Bronze plan. In US and Germany it costs $2.5 USD per month, in South Africa – $3/mo and in Brazil – $5/mo. The price seems to be really affordable and reasonable when most of the other companies usually require a sum of $10 or higher for their starter VPS hosting plans. With the Bronze plan you get 0.5 CPU core, 256 MB RAM, 20 GB disk space and 500 GB bandwidth. These resources will be enough for host a small website such as a blog, portfolio website. Silver plan is a more expensive option, but you will get more resources. In US and Germany it costs $5/mo, in South Africa – $6.50/mo and in Brazil – $8/mo. For this price, you get 1 CPU core, 768 MB RAM, 30 GB disk space and 1000 GB bandwidth. With these resources you can use the server for more a bit more resource intensive projects, or higher traffic websites. Their third Gold plan in US and Germany costs $15, in South Africa – $19 and in Brazil – $21 per month. It will supply you with 2 CPU cores, 2048 MB RAM, 40 GB disk space and 2000 GB bandwidth. This will cover the needs of a bigger website or a medium size online project. Also, you can sign up for a VPS that is suitable for power hungry projects or websites. Platinum plan is the most expensive but at the same time the most powerful VPS hosting plan that Host1Plus has to offer. It costs $40 in US and Germany, $45 in South Africa and $50 in Brazil per month. With this powerful server, you get 4 CPU cores, 4096 MB RAM, 70 GB disk space and 3000 GB bandwidth. At the end, what also matters is the general performance of the company. You can find the reviews about the company at the very end of their main page. People seem to be really satisfied with their price and performance which adds a higher level of...

Five Things you’ll Love About the HTC Desire 820-From a Non-Mobile Phone Genius’ Perspective

By on Nov 20, 2014 in Cell Phones |

Alright, let me start this with a confession that I really am not that well-versed when it comes to mobile phone specifications. In other words, I am but a mere mobile phone user who in one way or the other may not even understand a handful of cell phone jargons should I come face to face with them. But tell you what; I know a good phone when I encounter one. For my birthday, a special person gave me HTC Desire 820 and honestly, I didn’t know what to do with it the first time I touched the phone. But little by little, with utmost carefulness, I began unwrapping the package and explored the best gift I have ever received for my birthday so far. Well, at first look, you may actually see the Desire 820 to be a mere one of those intimidating-looking smart phones that’s sleek on the outside but perfectly ordinary on the inside, but tell you what, it’s not. A few days of bonding with the gadget and I have discovered five things that makes the HTC Desire 820 one of a kind. It is stunning. To describe this phone as beautiful is an understatement. If I were to compare to a woman like me, this phone is one I would consider a head-turner, and yes, whenever I use this phone on public, some people actually turn their heads to check it out. With its metal body and equally attractive color designs, the phone exudes a strong yet sleek aura that can be compared to a successful woman, not to mention its slimness that is just so sexy. It is fast and efficient. As I mentioned earlier, I really am not that well-versed with mobile phone jargons but once I got curious what’s in Desire 820 that makes it really fast no matter how any apps I access at a tie or how different sites I am browsing , and I have found out that 820 actually has a very powerful process. Well, I don’t know what edge a Qualcomm Octa-Core 64-bit processor with integrated LTE modem has over other processors but comparing my HTC Desire 820 with my previous phone, my old phone is way, way slower. Two Awesome Cameras To tell you what, my Desire 820’s front camera can beat my old phone’s rear camera when it comes to photo stability and clarity. Equipped with a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera, my HTC 820-taken photos have received a lot of praises whenever I upload them into my online networking accounts. In addition, with this phone I need not download apps to improve the images I took, rather, Desire 820 has this feature that automatically perks up     the photos taken. In addition, the camera is also capable of recording high definition videos-saving me from the stress of carrying around my heavy digital camera. Memory My Desire 820 has 16 gig of internal storage and 2 gig of RAM, and these are more than enough for the demands of my daily use. In addition, I have also found out that the memory can be expanded up to 128 GB, now that upgrade’s one thing to ask for my next birthday. But seriously, for a mobile phone to be assumed to be capable of maintaining its function despite having a heavy load of files stored in it simply means that the phone must really be powerful. It came free. I guess the most interesting part about me owning a Desire 820 is that I got it for free. But seriously, though the phone may belong among the ranks of mid to upper range prices, this phone’s worth all the investments. The writer loves to make reviews on gadgets which she herself was anxious to touch at first but eventually found herself in love...

The top 5 disaster protection must haves

By on Jan 8, 2014 in Uncategorized |

While technology has come a long way in terms of availability and performance, there are still plenty of hiccups that prevent 100 percent uptime. This makes disaster protection planning a key component of any IT strategy, but what elements need to be included? Here are the top five must-haves for disaster protection: 1. A communications strategy When things do go wrong, it is important that all stakeholders know who to contact. This can take the form of a list of system administrators and what they are in charge of, whether it is job scheduling or system management. For organizations leveraging third-party services, it is helpful to maintain a list of support contact information so that issues can be resolved quickly. 2. High Availability While no system is perfect, those designed with HA are best equipped when a component malfunctions or goes down. As Smart Data Collective contributor Victor Brown pointed out, many organizations turn to the cloud for their disaster protection needs. This ensures uptime even in the event of a large-scale outage on-premises. However, the key components – system redundancy, infrastructure swapping and proactive monitoring – of an HA ecosystem are beneficial regardless of where resources are hosted. IBM i operators can leverage PowerHA System Mirror to ensure mission-critical resources remain available during planned and unplanned downtime. 3. Disaster recovery In an ideal world, the mission-critical resources would remain available all the time, but even the best disaster protection plans sometimes fail. This means it is essential to ensure that a disaster recovery solution is in place in the event of downtime. According to a 2013 survey from the Disaster Recovery Preparedness Council, 72 percent of companies scored either a D or an F in disaster readiness. From a business standpoint, a significant portion of the DR challenge comes from a lack of clear strategy. The majority of businesses surveyed did not have comprehensive documentation of their DR practices. On the technical side, automation could significantly reduce instances of downtime because analysts revealed human error as the top cause of system outages. 4. Frequent testing Once a comprehensive DR plan and solution have been put into place, it is critical that they are actually tested for effectiveness. The council’s survey revealed that 50 percent of the organizations polled only tested their strategies twice per year and 13 percent never tested them. Considering that 70 percent of the ones that conduct testing failed to meet their own service-level agreements, most businesses have significant room for improvement. 5. Virtualization Leveraging virtual servers and other infrastructure can reduce the time it takes to get systems up and running again. As IT analyst Greg Shulz recently pointed out in a State Tech article, virtualization allows organizations to build predefined configurations, which facilitates faster deployment and minimizes the risk of configuration errors. He suggested creating a master template for systems that can serve as a starting point for any new virtual...
